Presentation
Mr. Muting than gave a presentation on Students lacking the fundamental coping skills needed to be a success in life. One of the biggest reasons students lack these skills are parent over parenting.
Mr. Muting did research and shared some things he learned from Julie Lythcott-Haimes and her book "Break Free of the Over Parenting Trap and Prepare Your Kid for Success-How to Raise an Adult."
Scenarios were given of times when parents stepped in. He then gave examples of parenting styles.
Mr. Muting than gave examples of things a son or daughter should know before he or she leaves high school.
Mr. Muting challenged parents to leave remembering three things, we overprotect, over direct and over correct.
Mr. Muting purpose of the presentation is not to say that parents are bad or are doing anything wrong. You know what is best for your son and daughter. He wanted to give information, something to think about and something to help make your student the best he or she can be.
You are here tonight because you care about your child's education and getting involved.
Mr. Muting requested the parents take an index card and write done one thing that makes you a great parent, write down one thing you do to enable your child and write down one thing you would change.
It was requested no name be put on it and Mr. Muting would collect the data and he will comment on it before Dr. Pallardy talks about social- emotional anxiety.
Mr. Muting than introduced the President of the Mother's Club, Diane Ruiz and the President of the Father's
Club Jeff Haak.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 P.M.
An Ice Cream Social took place afterwards.
Respectfully Submitted,
Mary Schmit
