Tomorrow Pep Rally-Students wear Green in honor of Isa Lopez, (Class of “18”) who died a year ago.
- Sat. Homecoming 550 students. Need volunteers for chaperoning. Contact Mr. Muting
- Next Thursday, Grandparent Day. 204 People 72 students participating.
- Oct. 3rd Vike Hike
- Oct 7th Bingo Start Time 2:00 P.M.
- Oct 13th Math Contest for Grammar School Students
- Oct 14th First Open House
- Oct 15th Students off school
- Oct 5th and 8th Viking Visit Day
- Oct. 10th Testing of Students (Freshman, Sophomore. and Juniors) Seniors college visit day.
- 121 parents have brought stuff to students through office. This is only the 21st school day. Many lunches. Do not send. Student can come to the office to get a lunch pass.
- Mr. Muting is concerned about Vaping among students.
- Be on time to school, 7:45 latest.
- Social Media-Be aware of what is posted as a parent and by students. Postings follow students forever.
- Mr. Muting asked for questions:
- Actual dress code week of October 8th.
- Football game at 7 P.M.
- Mr. Muting complimented the students: Most are doing a great job. They are smiling and have been outstanding. His door is always open. Call not so much e mails.

- Works with students at St. Laurence.
- Topic, “Social Emotional Issues and Anxiety”
- Suicide Rate for males age 15-19 Increased 12 to 18 Percent per 100,000 population. Suicide rates for females doubled 2007-20015
- Difference between fear, anxiety and stress Fear-Actual Threat Anxiety Perceived or believed threat create your own. Stress-Activate anxiety
- Adolescent brain matures at 26. Adolescent-No coping skills.
- Three parts brain-Front-Logic and thinking. Middle-Emotions, Feelings Brain Stem Physiology Response.
- Want teens to experience stress to learn how to deal with it.
- Try to slow down world with external sources (Zen Music helpful)
- Anxiety Epidemic -Most common chronic 25% of adults.
- Do not lecture child i.e. Get detention. Hope you understand.
- Reasons of anxiety- 1. Post 911 world, 2. War on terrorism, can’t control 3. Media information overload to perceived threats 4. Economy 5. Illness
- Lot of misdiagnosis ADD than anxiety. Use different medicines.
- Anxiety unchecked turns into anger. Can’t put self out to be rejected
- Shutdown things when they go from. Brain can only do one thing at a time.
- Genuine Interest in Children
- Invests in relationship
- Provide active learning experiences
- Make learning enjoyable
- Creative and spontaneous
- Willing to learn from Child
- Contemporary and cool but not fake
- Narrate problem solving strategies
- Build rapport and trust with student and family members
- Empathy
- Avoid judgments and channel frustration
- Provide Resources
- Provide children/students with choices
- Language such as choice vs you must do
- What do you think you could do vs You will be ok?
- Look for teaching opportunities that work toward goal attainment
- Timing is important
- Less is more
- Building resilience: Bounce Back
